Leadership Foundations
Introduction
This foundational leadership program is designed to provide
a forum to facilitate discussion about leadership and management principles. To stay
competitive, your organization must develop the best workforce in this industry. A
key element for making that happen is an innovative approach to leadership. Copying models
will not give your organization the edge it will need for the future. Through your
efforts, a unique your organization way of working with each other will develop. This
program will help expand your alternatives for decision making and action.
Most management programs attempt to deliver
"answers" and provide succinct steps to follow. This is done to satisfy the need
to impose order on a chaotic world. Searching for simple, concrete answers and definitive
cause and effect with regard to leadership and management issues is risky.
The essence of this program is that people react not to an
objective world, but to a world fashioned out of their own perceptions, assumptions and
theories of what the world is like. Managers and leaders, like all people, can be trapped
by these assumptions into inappropriate and ineffective decisions. Once we become
aware, we can choose! The process of exercising "free choice" will be the
real value to the your organization Team.
This program rests on the belief that things do not happen
through direct cause and effect stimulus; but, rather as a result of the relationships
between many different factors and variables. Further, those relationships are rarely
duplicated. Hence, models or formulas outlining specific behaviors in certain situations
are limited. We hope to create a learning environment in which people will examine and
challenge their own "mental models" (assumptions and beliefs) of how things are
and/or should be.
This must be just the start of a continual learning process
for new and innovative ways to lead. Never before has "Leadership" been in as
strong a position to be a "competitive advantage."
Program Objectives
This program serves as an introduction and overview on
selected leadership issues. These issues were identified by your organization as being the
foundation for a continuous improvement process for developing leaders at your
organization. The courses are designed in a way to impart new knowledge, new thought
processes, new understandings and conceptual and diagnostic skills and techniques.
Each issue will be reviewed in approximately four hour
sessions and, therefore, will not be an exhaustive exploration of each topic. The basic
goals are:
- Raise awareness, impart new knowledge, develop skills and
provide techniques for improving leadership performance.
- Begin shifting the way people think about leadership
in the future your organization.
- Stimulate positive change in behavior.
- Provide resources and guidance for future self development.
- Begin to develop an "your organization" way of
dealing with each other.
