Herman Cain
|
Herman Cain is hailed as one of today's most influential
business leaders by such publications as Business Week, and the Wall Street Journal. Over
the past twenty years, he has built an impressive reputation for making things happen. He
is a leader who has repeatedly tackled troubled business situations and turned them around
in the face of overwhelming odds.
Thanks to his parents sacrificial saving, and his hard
work, Cain was able to earn a degree in mathematics from Morehouse College in 1967 and
later earn a master's degree in computer science from Purdue University (while working as
a mathematician for the Department of the Navy.) He then worked as a business analyst for
The Coca Cola Company. In 1968, he married his wife, Gloria. They have two grown children.
In 1977 Herman Cain joined The Pillsbury Company and within
five years, at the age of thirty-four, rose to Vice-President of Corporate Systems and
Services. Instead of settling back into his executive position, Cain, reflecting on his
father's drive to seek greater challenges, set his sights for corporate presidency.
To begin this road Herman Cain, at the age of thirty-six,
resigned his senior position and began learning the restaurant business from the ground up
by making hamburgers at Pillsbury's Burger King division. Nine months later, he was
managing 400 Burger King units in the Philadelphia region, the company's poorest
performer. Within three years his region became the company's best.
In 1986, Pillsbury appointed Cain to the presidency of the
then financially-troubled Godfather's Pizza, Inc. chain headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.
Under Cain's leadership, the chain regained profitability within fourteen months. In 1988
he led his executive team in a buyout of the company from Pillsbury.
In 1995, Cain served as President of the Board of the
National Restaurant Association. The Restaurant Association is a business organization
based in Washington, D.C. While leading the association, he developed the organization
into a powerful, pro-business voice via national debates and speeches concerning health
care reform, employment policies and taxation. Following this experience, he was appointed
by Newt Gingrich to serve on the Economic Growth and Tax Reform Commission and became a
senior advisor to the 1996 Dole-Kemp campaign for the presidency.
Herman Cain continued the responsibilities of President and
Chairman of Godfather's Pizza, Inc. while beginning a second career in national keynote
speaking.
By the end of 1996, Cain stepped down from his position as
President & CEO at Godfather's Pizza to become the President & CEO of the
National Restaurant Association, the organization for which he had served as a volunteer
chairman and President of the Board in 1994/95.
Herman Cain now commutes between his offices in Washington
and Omaha. He stays devoted to his family, and as an accomplished baritone, indulges his
passion for concert singing as well as his many community projects.
Using his quick wit and common sense approach to presenting
an easy-to-follow concept of exactly what leadership is and what it isn't; Herman Cain
will capture your audience with the enthusiasm and insight that has made him one of
today's most sought-after visionary speakers!
